Two great guys right here: GT World Champion legend Nelson Chanady and GT collector George Nava at Frogtown. We’ve just added an interview with Nelson to our BMXWeekly.com YouTube channel from the weekend. If you dive into our YouTube archives, you’ll find a video we posted last year featuring George’s GT collection.
One of the coolest sidehack pairings in Frogtown is Rick Carter and rider Ray Flitcraft. Ray, a talented 16-year-old from Clovis, CA, rides for BODY D. Not only was Rick racing on the track, but he also teamed up with Bryan Dorsey in the announcer’s tower for the weekend, providing us with excellent commentary. The combination of Rick and Bryan kept us entertained all weekend long. Let’s get them on the national circuit
Oregon’s 13-time State Champion & Rad Trail kid Kenshin Shiba, riding for @goodsbmx, and GT’s 90s Multi ABA National Number 1 Barry Nilson (GT Nation), who also took the win in Cruiser at Frogtown, were battling during the early rounds.
S&Ms SHL OG Eric Tipton was on fire in Frogtown not at The 4 Star/California Cup Grand Prix 55+ Cruiser class but Frogtowns main events finals on Sunday.
Pro/Am Final: Perhaps there’s a changing of the guard in these vintage-style races in the Pro/Am class. Two-time Pro/Am Champion Terry Tenette was passed on the outside by 21-year-old Levi Folkrod, who was riding a 1984 Raleigh Cruiser (I had no idea Raleigh even made a 24”). GT’s Dale Holmes came in 3rd, with another young rider, S&M’s Easton Usher, finishing 4th.
It’s always good to see Mr. Stu Thomsen out on the track in 2024, not just at Dirty Fest earlier this year, but also at Frogtown again last weekend. It’s pretty incredible how fast Stu still is and how well he still rides his bike; I don’t see him slowing down any time soon. Stu was back on top with a win on the 24, with Nelson Chanady in 2nd and Robert Taylor in 3rd.
Did you catch the new episode last week on Dirty Knobs with Chris Moeller? If not, it’s worth a listen! Chris also managed to recover from that spill at Frogtown and took the win in the Pre-77 Coaster Brake class.
In the Retro 24″ Open and Sidehack categories, Dan’s Comp’s Mike Lee was flying, no matter what bike he was on, and he bagged 2 wins.
Crit Plates Curtis Bland Jr. consistently finished 3rd on Friday in the California Cup Series qualifier, 2nd overall in the finals on Sunday, and earned another podium to add to that.
Good to see Cults Max Vu (44) tearing it up on the track in Frogtown.
20″ Re-pop class in action: Race Inc. Factory Legend Mikey Lundy and S&M’s Freddie Chulo & GT’s Dale Holmes.
Craig Turner gt1972.com in the house.
Jonathan Davis is getting faster and faster during these Dirty Fest and Frogtown events. Over in Frogtown a couple of weeks ago, Jonathan placed 6th in the Pro-Am, 4th in the 90s class, and he got a 1st and a 2nd in the 20-inch class and the 24-inch. Great riding weekend for him.
